A Summer of Facility Improvements
Brian Dennis, President & CEO
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Yellowstone County’s drive to create a world-class individual experience for each member, means we are constantly working to improve everything we do and everything we have. This summer that improvement has been focused on the amenities and appearance of some of our Clubhouses!
New Picnic Shelters
Last year we received a generous grant from our long-time partners at the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust to develop and build outdoor program structures at the Bair Family and Lockwood Clubhouses. The purpose of these structures was to create additional flexibility for our Clubhouse staff in the form of a shaded, multi-purpose, outdoor space that could be used for both structured and informal Club activities. Additionally, in the case of the Lockwood Picnic Shelter, it will also be available to teachers and students during the school day in nice weather.
New Lockwood Clubhouse Program Space
Nearly 20 years ago, I started my Club journey at the Lockwood Clubhouse, and I remember the daily juggling act we faced to serve members in the spaces we shared around the cafeteria. Thanks to the school’s commitment to their students and partnership with the Club, we were able to move into a “dedicated” space in 2020, which was transformational for the kids we serve and our efforts to provide them with a world-class Club experience. Earlier this summer, the school again manifested its commitment to the kids and the Club when they granted us access to another large classroom, which we will share with our Head Start neighbors. The team is already working to renovate this new room into a space that will primarily be utilized in support of our expanding social emotional wellness program efforts.
New Lockwood Window Wraps
The final improvement of the summer does not really impact how well we serve those who need us most, but it sure looks cool and makes it much easier for parents and guests to find the entrance to our Lockwood Clubhouse! Thanks to a generous commitment from the Lockwood School, our Club staff utilized pictures of current Club members to create these custom images, which were installed on the large two-story windows facing Highway 87.
