Cans, Community, and Club

Juanita Sanchez

Director of Teen Services

A community volunteer, Judy, approached the Boys & Girls Clubs of Yellowstone County Teen program with an idea of creating a unique art project commemorating America’s 250th Anniversary. The goal was to incorporate all 50 Coca-Cola cans, each featuring the design of a different state, into an original art piece created and designed by Club Teens. Judy connected with Coca-Cola in Billings with her plans and was able to secure all 50 states’ cans.

As the Teens developed their design, they wanted the artwork to reflect not only our nation but also the impact of the Boys & Girls Club movement. The finished piece proudly features the Boys & Girls Club logo in three meaningful locations: the site of the first Boys & Girls Club in Hartford, Connecticut; the Boys & Girls Clubs of America headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia; and our own organization, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Yellowstone County, representing the positive impact the Club has on youth in our community.

What began as a simple collaboration quickly grew into a much larger project than anyone anticipated. Throughout the month-long process, Club Teens demonstrated incredible dedication, perseverance, and teamwork. They faced each new challenge with confidence, patience, and a willingness to learn, turning obstacles into opportunities for growth.

The final 6-foot by 8-foot art installation exceeded everyone’s expectations and became a source of pride for the teens, staff, volunteers, and community partners alike. The piece has been entered into the Montana State Fair art competition and has also been invited to be displayed at the Billings Air Show, as well as another event at MetraPark, where it will be prominently showcased for the public to enjoy.

The piece has been awarded Best in Class and can be viewed at the MontanaFair at Metra Park now until August 15th.
