Pursue Greatness

At the Boys & Girls Club, we meet young people at some of the most important moments in their lives. Every day, they walk through our doors carrying more than backpacks. They are carrying expectations, emotions, challenges, and stories that don’t always get heard. That privilege also comes with a responsibility: to be consistent, to be fair, to be supportive, and to show up in ways that truly matter.
This individual believes deeply in accountability. He understands that holding kids accountable for their actions is not about punishment, but about respect for the child’s ability to grow, to learn, and to do better. He sets clear expectations and follows through with consistency, helping kids understand that their choices matter. Because of this, the kids in his group learn responsibility, self-awareness, and confidence in their ability to make positive decisions.
What truly sets him apart is his dedication to building relationships with the kids who need it most. The ones who test boundaries. The ones who push back. The ones who require tough love paired with genuine care. He doesn’t shy away from those challenges. Instead, he invests time and energy into forming trust with the kids, knowing that strong relationships are often the foundation for real change. To many of them, he becomes a steady presence-someone who doesn’t give up, even when things are hard.
He is also deeply invested in mentoring. Not only does he consistently complete his mentoring responsibilities, but he approaches them with intention and purpose. He brings new ideas to the mentoring program, constantly thinking about how to make it more meaningful and impactful. He ensures that his Club members are not just checked off a list, but truly supported, heard, and guided. His mentoring is thoughtful, structured, and rooted in genuine care for each child’s growth.
Beyond his direct work with kids, he is a strong team player. He contributes actively in Red Zone meetings, making sure other coordinators are informed about what is happening with his group of Club members. This communication strengthens our team and ensures that no child falls through the cracks. His willingness to collaborate and share insights reflects his commitment not just to his own group, but to the entire Club community.
For many kids, Ryker is a constant calm and safe presence. In moments of chaos, frustration, or emotional overwhelm, he brings steadiness. He creates an environment where kids feel secure, understood, and supported. That sense of safety cannot be overstated, it is often what allows kids to open up, regulate their emotions, and begin to trust adults again. And while the heart of this work is about relationships, reliability matters too. He consistently turns in his HYLAS, purchase requests, mentoring forms, and time-off requests on time. This level of responsibility reflects his professionalism and respect for the systems that help our Club run smoothly. It shows that he understands how his role fits into the bigger picture.
The Pursue Greatness award honors someone who embodies accountability, intentionality, calm leadership, and unwavering commitment to kids. Someone who shows up fully for the children, for the team, and for the mission of the Boys & Girls Club.
It is with great pride to present this award to Ryker.
